Gap Year Advice

I have been accepted into the university of my choice but am thinking of deferring for a year. My parents have said that it could affect my future though. Is this true?
Amit Judge, Pinner, Sheffield.

Xcel advice: As long as the year off is spent constructively, a Gap Year can have many positive effects on a student. Some choose to work for a year to reduce their overall debts when they leave university and also to gain some work experience to pad out their CV. Others take this opportunity to travel or to go onto expeditions. In terms of affecting your future, a carefully planned Gap Year can be a great bonus to anyone’s CV. It can show initiative and drive. So, rather than telling your parents you want a year off to doss about, why not get some expert advice on what you could do with this year. You’ll be surprised at the positive response you get from them when they can see the options and life experiences that are open to you.

For this advice why not contact the Year Out Group who specialise in helping you to plan a constructive Gap Year. You can contact them by logging onto the website: www.yearoutgroup.com
